Twitter Now Available in Right-to-Left Languages

by Zealous Zoe — Categories: MyGlobalSearch — Tags: , , , , Comments Off

In MyGlobal Search, Twitter launched four new languages, Arabic, Farsi, Hebrew and Urdu, with the help of thirteen thousand volunteers around the globe. The new languages were added to Twitter Translation Center late January of this year. Volunteers worked hard to help twitter translate and localize Twitter and develop the ability to post right-to-left languages.

Twitter is thankful just to have such a huge following, let alone a following that would donate their time to make this translation a reality. The volunteers ranged from Saudi bloggers, Egyptian college students, BBC journalists, IT professionals, to Israeli schoolteachers and teenagers in Lebanon.

Some of the volunteers lived in places where twitter is blocked. The efforts is a  testament to how much of an impact twitter has had on our global community and how important it is for people to be connected.

Can Women Really Have it All?

by Zealous Zoe — Categories: MyGlobalSearch — Tags: , , , , , , Comments Off

During my web search today, I came across a study that three out of four women wouldn’t marry a man that was unemployed. The study further explained that 65 percent of women would feel uncomfortable getting married if they themselves were unemployed. Seemingly contrary, 91 percent of single women said they would marry for love over money. So how do all these statistics come together?

Though some people may say marrying for love over money and these new statistics contradict each other, I can understand the reasoning behind them. First, a woman wanting a man with a job doesn’t necessarily mean she wants a man with money; it’s about what having a job says about a man. It says he’s motivated, goal-oriented and successful, so it’s about those characteristics — rather than about the money itself — that attracts a woman to an employed man. Next, women feel uncomfortable getting married when they’re unemployed because that means they have no source of their own income. They would be totally financially dependent on their husband, and this gives them less independence on all fronts.

As far as the 91 percent that would marry for love over money: again, a job does not necessarily mean money. Plus, given the choice because a man she loves and a man with a job, I think most women would choose love. Who says we can’t have it all?
